Background Information  
The Project proposal was initiated in February 2002 during a Roundtable Conference held in Bagamoyo, for representatives of all education stakeholders in Tanzania. The Project Proposal was written during the course of 2002 and it was approved and supported by the International Institute for Communication and Development, IICD, a Dutch Foundation.  
   
Vision  
To create a knowledge society by providing educational information and services to the public by the most efficient means.  
   
Mission  
To provide accurate, reliable, and instantly available educational information throughout the country, by the most up-to-date means possible, on a regular basis, and to provide other much needed educational services.  
   
Aims  
  • To publicly disseminate information on a data-driven web site, made available on CD-ROM disks, for downloading, printing, or distribution at the Regional Centres in various key areas in the country and at sites related to education.
  • To establish effective communication, particularly in the rural areas of Tanzania. For this purpose, part of the website is published in Swahili as a newsletter, tanedu.org. This can be downloaded, printed and distributed manually to educational institutions throughout the country.
  • To build up a knowledge society in Tanzania by employing the power of ICT and to develop human resources for the development of the country.
 
   
Our Objective  
To provide educational and information resources to students, parents and teachers, free of charge, and on a continuous, uninterrupted, and unhindered basis. The website provides information on schools and colleges in Tanzania, gives access to meaningful, practical, and useful educational resources such as teaching tips, study skills, memory skills, and much more.

The website contains information on Family Life Education, and on other general guidance issues. Our team of professionals was able to provide guidance on sexual and reproductive health.  
   
Job opportunities  
Schools could advertise vacant posts and in addition, they could publish vacation job offers for students.  
   
Scholarship Opportunities  
Information on co-curricular activities, competitions, urgent notices, and invitations to seminars, conferences, and workshops, all are posted on our web site TanEdu also assists outstanding and gifted students and empowers them through ICTs to help them to develop multiple capabilities so as to develop the nucleus of a knowledge society in Tanzania.

Links are posted on the web site to download the TanEdu Newsletter for printing and redistribution.
As a way of motivating others the web site also includes profiles of outstanding students, teachers, educationists, and others who have excelled in academic and non-academic fields.
