| The Project proposal was initiated in February 2002 during a Roundtable Conference held in Bagamoyo, for representatives of all education stakeholders in Tanzania. The Project Proposal was written during the course of 2002 and it was approved and supported by the International Institute for Communication and Development, IICD, a Dutch Foundation. | |

- To publicly disseminate information on a data-driven web site, made available on CD-ROM disks, for downloading, printing, or distribution at the Regional Centres in various key areas in the country and at sites related to education.
- To establish effective communication, particularly in the rural areas of Tanzania. For this purpose, part of the website is published in Swahili as a newsletter, tanedu.org. This can be downloaded, printed and distributed manually to educational institutions throughout the country.
- To build up a knowledge society in Tanzania by employing the power of ICT and to develop human resources for the development of the country.
